Keynote Speaker: Charisse R. Lillie

Charting a Realistic and Hopeful Path Forward

As the nation approaches the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and the American Alliance of Museums marks 120 years of service to the field, this keynote looks ahead as much as it reflects back. Attorney, former Philadelphia City Solicitor, corporate executive, and longtime civic leader Charisse R. Lillie brings a rare cross-sector perspective to this pivotal moment.

In a time of growing polarization, economic uncertainty, and shifting public trust, she will explore the essential role museums play in strengthening civic life—creating space for meaningful dialogue, supporting one another through ongoing challenges, and investing in the next generation of leaders. Grounded in both optimism and clear-eyed realism, this keynote offers practical insights for navigating what’s ahead and building institutions that are resilient, relevant, and deeply connected to the public they serve.

Following her remarks, Lillie will lead a panel discussion with Thom Collins, Executive Director & President of The Barnes Foundation; Ashley Jordan, President & CEO of the African American Museum in Philadelphia; and William Harris, President & CEO of Space Center Houston.

The general session is generously supported by .ART
