In 2015, the Missouri History Museum (MHM) opened the History Clubhouse, a nearly 6,000-square-foot exhibit designed to offer children and families a chance to learn about local history through play in a hands-on immersive environment. Creating a large-scale exhibit for a very young audience was a new endeavor for MHM, and thus involving families in every step of the development process became top priority. Participants will play and explore in the clubhouse and then discover how MHM utilized everything from focus groups to a full-size prototype exhibit and worked with thousands of children and families to select content, write labels, create art installations, and ultimately build an award-winning space that families can call their own.
