Explore the East at Cahokia Mounds

Explore the remains of America’s First City, at Cahokia Mounds State Historic Site, a community of 10-20,000 people who flourished here about 1,000 years ago, through exhibits and iPod tours. Climb the 150 steps up Monks Mound, see award-winning exhibits, and experience the monumental architecture of the Mississippian Culture, whose center of influence was right here in the heart of the Midwest.

- Exhibits: Wetlands & Waterways: The Key to Cahokia, orientation film and gallery exhibits
- Food and Drink: Complimentary cupcakes, cheese and crackers, and light savory hors d’oeuvres with complimentary beer, wine, soda and water, provided by the Cahokia Mounds Museum Society.
