Gateways to Understanding: Listening to and Engaging Diverse Audiences in a City of Confluence
Dr. Kelvin Adams began his ninth year as Superintendent of Schools for the Saint Louis Public School District with the 2016-2017 school year. He oversees more than 24,000 students in grades Pre K – 12 and is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the District’s nearly 4,000 employees and $285 Million budget. Under Dr. Adams’ guidance, Saint Louis Public Schools has increased its graduation rate, improved state test scores and boosted attendance rates each year. The District, which was stripped of accreditation in 2007 before Dr. Adams arrived, made history on January 10, 2017, when the Missouri State Board of Education voted unanimously to restore Full Accreditation to SLPS.
Dr. Adams received a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership in Administration from the University of New Orleans in 2005. He earned a M.A. in Elementary Education from Xavier University in 1991 and a B.A. in Elementary Education and Special Education from Northeast Louisiana University in 1978.
