2017 Featured Speaker Series: Attack Theatre
Michele de la Reza, Co-Founder and Artistic Director of Attack Theatre
As Co-Founder and Artistic Director of Attack Theatre, Michele’s work has been presented throughout the US and in Switzerland, Japan, Monaco, Germany, France, Indonesia and Turkey. Michele was a lead dancer with Dance Alloy and NYC-based Perks DanceMusicTheatre for eight years. With Peter Kope, she is the recipient of three PA Council on the Arts fellowships and Hardie Educator of the Year. Attack Theatre’s work in museums and galleries has been presented nationally and internationally for over two decades by the Carnegie Museum of Art (Pittsburgh), The Avignon Festival (France), the Andy Warhol Museum (Pittsburgh), Museé Océanographique de Monaco (Monte Carlo, Monaco), The Phillips Collection (Washington, DC) and Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art (New York) among many others. She received her BFA in dance from The Juilliard School and a Master’s of Science in Education from the University of Pittsburgh. Michele is on faculty of dance at Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Music.
Peter Kope, Co-Founder and Artistic Director of Attack Theatre
As Co-Founder and Artistic Director of Attack Theatre, Peter has performed works for the Avignon Festival (France), the 7th Next Wave Dance Festival (Japan), the Spoleto Festival (USA), Tanzmesse (Germany), and the Broadway production of Squonk. He toured internationally with Jacob Pillow’s “Men Dancers: The Ted Shawn Legacy”, the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company, Dance Alloy, and Perks DanceMusicTheatre. His work with Attack Theatre was featured in Dance Magazine as one of “25 to Watch for 2007,” named “Best Dance Company” (Pittsburgh City Paper 2007-2011, 2016), “Best Dance Performance” (Post-Gazette 2006, 2010, 2011,) and received the National Dance Project touring award, and an NEA ArtWorks award for their process/performance Some Assembly Required that engages audiences with dialogue, improvisation, and performance inspired by works of visual art in 2012. Peter is on faculty Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Music, where Attack Theatre is the dance company in residence.
